Where does our food come from?
Today we used a key and a map to identify where we import food from. We worked in pairs and improved our map skills.

We believe that working hard helps us achieve great things and that learning is something to love and enjoy every day. We celebrate curiosity and the excitement of always wanting to find out more.

Your child should be reading each day for at least 20 minutes. Take time to ask questions about their book as this will really help develop their reading comprehension.
Homework will be set every Friday to be completed by the following Thursday on; Maths.co.uk SPAG.com
Keep up to date with everything that is happening via the school app or by visiting our class page on the school website.

This week we have been introduced to our new book ‘Curiosity: A story of a Mars Rover’ by Markus Motum. We have created our own curiosity journals so that we can add things as we learn about them!

We had a lovely time roasting marshmallows on the fire, getting a gift and then playing in some snow!

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our craft activities. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Take a peek at some of our amazing sets for Goodnight Mr Tom. Some of us made Little Weirwold (a fictional village) and some made London during the war.

Year 5 had a great time today visiting ‘Western Approaches War Museum’. We enjoyed catching the train into the city centre and walking to see The Liverpool Blitz Memorial before going to the museum.

We were blown away with how much the children already knew about WW2 and the impact on Liverpool. They loved seeing the museum and everything in it. Please ask your child about their trip at home.

Today we have learnt why Britain rationed during WW2 and why it was so important. Firstly, we guessed how much food people were allowed. We have created rationing posters to convince others!

Today we have used data from our investigation to create a database on Google Sheets. We used the database to answer questions such as ‘Who jumped the highest?’ And ‘Who jumped higher than 1.9m’.

This half term Year 5 have been looking at how you can use variables within your coding. Children have spent the past few weeks creating a multiplication quiz program. Children created a timer variable and score variable, they then added in code to get a Sprite to ask a question and used a conditional statement to put in the ability to score a point if the answer is correct or to take a point away if it is incorrect. Children then programmed a timer variable to give people 10 seconds to answer each question.

In Year 5, we have been designing our sets for Goodnight Mr Tom, either based in Little Weirwold or London. The children did a fantastic job of thinking of the different dimensions and what props they will be designing.

This morning, the children watched the wonderful pantomime ‘Cinderella’. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it made us laugh a lot!
Today the children had to remember their own information about propaganda used in WW2 to share with their tables. The children enjoyed being their own teachers for the lesson!

Wow! What a performance! The children absolutely loved watching Cinderella ⭐️ 🎃 ✨

Last week, Y5 created art work using setting descriptions from our class text ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’. We highlighted key phrases then accurately tried to recreate the wonderful village from WW2.

What an amazing session with mini medics. We learnt all about DR ABC and first aid. The children loved it.

After receiving coaching from Coach Craig from LSSP, some of our Year 5&6 children have qualified in PALS – Leading physical activities during break times. They really enjoyed the course and can’t wait to get started!

Our topic this term has been fitness. We have been learning about running and what our arms and legs should look like. We have put this into practise for our dodgeball game, which is our favourite!

We have had a wonderful time learning about Diwali and more about the Hindu religion. We heard the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindus celebrate this important festival. We were even gifted some Diva lamps to decorate – which we loved!

Yesterday morning, we went for a story, map activity and craft activity at the Palm house. In the afternoon, we followed our map and and completed some fieldwork around Sefton Park. We spotted many human and physical features of the park and added how we felt in each place on our map.
Year 5 enjoyed their ‘Racism Awareness’ Workshop today with Loti!

Today we had a look at our local park on digimaps to find its features. We then planned out a walk that we’re going to complete.

Thank you so much for all your donations towards MacMillan Cancer Support. Children had a lovely time – a lot of cake was enjoyed : )

We had a very fun science lesson yesterday recreating the frog life cycle and guessing which stage they were! LOTS of laughing in 5JH.
A student even went home and created a poster as extra homework.

We have had a wonderful start to the school year. It is lovely to see the children working hard and helping each other. We have also used our home languages to help our friends who are new to English.
