We are pleased to have been awarded the GOLD Liverpool Attendance Quality Mark. This recognises the school’s commitment to promoting good attendance, recognising that this is central to raising children’s attainment. We were thrilled that the report noted that: ‘The school’s curriculum is engaging and exciting and this means that children want to be in school; they don’t want to miss out on exciting activities,’ and that ‘The strong inclusive ethos and culture of the school supports good attendance.’
Every week at Smithdown, we hold an attendance assembly where we announce the class or classes whose attendance was the highest for the previous week. The winning class is presented with a certificate and a piece to add to their Mr Potato Head. The class with the most amount of features on their Mr Potato Head, at the end of each term, is rewarded with a special trip or in school activity.
We aim for 100% attendance wherever possible. Each day, classes earn a piece of pizza, popcorn, ice lolly or cookie if all the children are in. If, at the end of the week, they have all 5 pieces, they are rewarded with the corresponding prize.
If your child is unable to attend school, please telephone the school office by 9.30 am on the first day of absence. If attendance falls below our expected 97%, parents may receive a letter or invited in to discuss attendance with a member of the school’s leadership team so we can work together to make improvements. Please see our policies below for more information.
Keep checking our Newsletters and our Twitter feed each week to see which class has won.
