Welcome to Year 3

We are very excited to start a new year and have all of you lovely children in our classes. We are going to have lots of fun learning the curriculum below.

PE

PE kit consists of navy blue shorts, a sky blue polo shirt and pumps or trainers. 

PE will be on Monday for both 3MS and 3TS

Reading 

Please try and read with your child every night. Really focus on asking questions about their book as this will help them with their reading comprehension.

Please also spend time every night going over times tables with your child. There are lots of fun, free online resources that you can use.

Telling stories through making

We created models of Roald Dahl characters using paper and tape. Then we used modroc to wrap our model so we had a hard exterior and it would be ready to paint. We will be painting them when they are dry, so watch this space!

Asking our character questions!

This morning year 3 has so much fun meeting our character Issac from our new English book Rhythm of the rain. We thought about questions we would like to ask and wrote them in our books. We then had the chance to ask our questions to Issac.

We continued with our work editing photos. We created a background, added in our own photos, along with other pictures and then we edited a cropped them. Great work Year 3!

Earth Day

For Earth Day we estimated the noise level of some different roads around our school. We then used our data loggers to measure the actual noise level in dB. We spoke about noise pollution and what means for us.

Exaggerated drawings

Hands Signing Assembly

Shell structures

We explored some different 2D nets today and created 3D shell structures. We made sure we folded lines and glued tabs to create shapes that could stand up by themselves.

Chinese new year!

This afternoon we have has so much fun in our workshop. We have learned all about the dragon dance and different dances that are performed to celebrate the new year. We even got to have a go at it ourselves! We have also been looking at Chinese lanterns and designed our own for the celebration.

Internet safety day!

This morning we have been learning all about internet safety and what to do if there is something we don’t like online. We spoke about how to use AI safely then worked with our partners to talk about things that are okay and not okay for AI to do.

Stone Age Man (Archaeologist visit)

We have had an amazing afternoon! We had a visit from an archaeologist who brought lots of artefacts from the Stone Age. We looked at and held things that were thousands of years old. The children demonstrated a great attitude and an already super knowledge when answering questions.

Sustainable plastics

In Year 3 we were very lucky to have some trainee teacher teach us about sustainability and how we can reuse some plastics to prevent them damaging our environment if not recycled properly.

What a wonderful world

We created a new version of “What a Wonderful World”. We used different adjectives to describe the world around us. We then performed our new song in KS1 and KS2 assemblies.

Palaeolithic Cave Art

Within our history lesson, we looked at the first stage of the Stone Age. We have then applied what we know to our art lessons where we used different techniques to sketch with charcoal and create some cave art.

Year 3 have started Remembrance Day by focusing on some art work that uses paint, fabric and stitching. When they are dry we’ll add some stitching on them to add colour and texture.

Art final piece

Great effort on our final piece in art. Painting with scissors has been a great skill Year 3 have gained over the last term. No pencil markings, just free hand cutting. Everyone has become more confident with this technique and we have some amazing collages of some Ancient Egyptian art work.
