Please try and read with your child every night. Really focus on asking questions about their book as this will help them with their reading comprehension.
Our main push this year in Y4 will be times tables knowledge and rapidity. Practising weekly tables and enjoying times tables rockstars (login details can be found inside home reading record) will support you and your child with learning this. Year 4 had a great workshop all about circus skills. Our English text is based in the circus so this workshop allowed the children to step into the text and imagine what it would be like to be the main characters.
They loved it. 🎪🎡🎢🤹♀️
In P.E. this week, the children played a range of games that used their skills of attacking and defending.
Year 4 are loving their shared reading novel, Tilly and the Time Machine. Today, the children read independently and then answered S.A.T. style comprehension questions about the chapter. This approach will build children’s confidence with this style of question. 📚📖
In English today, the children refreshed their knowledge of punctuating speech by using macaroni as inverted commas. This allowed them to clearly identify where the inverted commas belonged in a sentence. This stuck in their heads for their independent activity.
Mac and cheese might be the dinner wish in your houses tonight!
In DT this term, year 4 will be using their science knowledge to create a simple circuit into a night lamp. To start this topic, we explored a range of lamps with different switches. The children were fascinated by the touch lamp … just look at their faces 🤣🛋💡⚡️
Today, year 4 were given some clues to our new text. These included popcorn, candy floss, a top hat, instrumental music and bunting. We decided that the book must be about a funfair or circus 🤡 🎪 🍿 We looked a pictures from our book and came up with some interesting story ideas.
Last week, year 4 used clay to make Chinese food. This week, they painted these and created a Chinese New Year feast table. Creativity skills were put to the test and the children made lanterns and fans to add more detail to our table. 🧧🇨🇳🥡🥢🥠 The children then received their very own fortune from fortune cookies.
Year 4 have been loving their P.E. sessions with Everton in the Community. This terms topic was ball skills with a focusing on passing and catching. Today, we played handball.
We were very lucky today to attend a Chinese New Year workshop where we practised a Chinese dance with fans and parasol ☂️ 🐉 🇨🇳
We have merged our art topic (festive feasts) and our R.E. topic (festivals and celebrations) to sculpt food out of clay to represent Chinese New Year. The children worked together to create a ‘feast’ on their tables and then showcased the skills learnt from this topic to create these foods. The children absolutely loved this. 🇨🇳🥠🥢
We will paint these next week once our clay has dried.
Year 4 are loving their ukulele sessions. Each week, their confidence with the instrument is growing and their skills have improved massively.

These children have worked hard creating their poems based on the text Winter Sleep – A Hibernation Story by Sean Taylor and Alex Morss. Both girls enjoy reading and writing at home, too. Well done!
Today in Art we sketched and painted tins of food. We used paint and also colouring crayons to add detail.
We looked at the difference between a regular and an irregular polygon? We know that if the length of the sides are different and the angles are unequal it is irregular.
We completed a timeline and can tell you when Early Islam began and how this compares to other ancient civilisations.
The winning team in our hockey tournament is THE GREEN TEAM 🟢🏒
It’s safe to say, we have some very competitive players in Y4.

Year 4 have finished their persuasive letters and spent today’s lesson editing their work. We rotated around various editing stations to ensure we focused on one feature at a time. The children were able to spot mistakes a lot easier in this way.📖✏️🔎
Year 4 have loved their English book, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have written persuasive letters, character descriptions and setting descriptions. To round off our book, we created a story map and acted out parts of the story, ensuring to use all the features we have learned. 📚🧌🐐🌉
Here are some pictures from our lovely campfire. The children have always loved this and it’s made even more special that they get to spend part of their morning with their family… and perhaps the chocolate and marshmallows are an extra bonus?
We loved our science experiment this week that involved building a switch. We discussed the different types of switches and how they are used to control a circuit. Then, we built a switch using a paper clip and a split pin.
Year 4 have been loving their geography topic where we have been comparing Liverpool and Rome. Today, we looked at types of ways humans use the land in both Liverpool and Rome and discussed different settlements.
Wow! What a performance! The children absolutely loved watching Cinderella ⭐️ 🎃 ✨
