This afternoon Year 4 have continued to build on their understand of how Pixels are used. Children used a website to recreate an image in pixel form. Children created it on paper first and then used excel to start to recreate their image.

This afternoon Year 4 have been converting a mosaic into a pixel-style image. Children had to work out how they could convert the different sections into a 14 x 14 grid to ensure their design stayed symmetrical, children designed it onto a piece of paper ready to create a digital version next week.

Year 4 continued to look at how we can use repeat loops to benefit code. They focused on being able to use a repeat loops to get two separate characters to move in different ways, one moving when the mouse is moving and the other to move by itself and change direction when hitting a wall.

On Thursday afternoon children continued to create programs using repeat loops. This program consisted of using repeat and forever loops to allow a pattern to be created using the pen tool on Scratch.

Yesterday we created artwork using a colour wheel to discover complimentary colours. We then created mosaic patterns inspired by Gaudi’s Trencadis technique. The media we used was oil pastel.

Yesterday we used pictorial artefacts to investigate a mystery person. We generated questions and then answered them using the internet. Finally some children were hot-seated in role.

Year 4 designed their Roman inspired mosaics using technology before creating their own paper version.

For Chinese New Year we have had a great time making snakes and performing a dragon dance!

Y4 have been busy learning all about human and animal teeth this half term. We decided to investigate the effect different drinks had on our teeth. We discovered some shocking conclusions!

Y3 & 4 were lucky enough to work with students from LJMU to learn about sustainability.. We made bracelets out of plastic bags.
Today Y4 explored the process of digestion by replicating their own model. It was a messy activity and we learned so much!

This half term Year 4 have been focusing on what pixels are and pixel artwork in their computing lessons. Children looked at how the amount of pixels can impact the quality of images, how we can use binary code to create different pixel images, explored how to create pixel images and used their knowledge of excel to create a pixel based image of a mosaic that they created.

Thank you to AS Creatives for our workshop this afternoon focusing on Ancient Civilisations.

We worked hard to plan and write a non-chronological report. We worked in groups to write a specific paragraph.

In groups we investigated a mystery object. What was it? What was it used for?
Who would have owned and used it?
We learnt about the mythical Kraken and wrote a section of a non- chronological report in groups.

Today we had a visit from Cruella De Vil who wanted to steal all of the Dalmatian puppies, luckily the classes were able to find all 101 of them and saved the school! What an amazing World Book Day 2025. 
In groups we compared an artist’s depiction of an area in Britain in the 1830s to how it had changed by
the 1890s. We discovered the changes in landscape were due to the Industrial Revolution. We then learnt about 7 key changes and ordered them by importance using a diamond nine activity.

Y4 have been busy exploring food chains in the environment. They have learned about the words consumer, producer and predator whilst recapping the process of photosynthesis.
This half term we are learning about the Victorians, but we don’t want to forget what we have learnt about our previous topic on the ancient civilisation of Baghdad. So, we played a game called Quiz, Quiz, Trade. This game involves asking questions to see how much we have remembered. We did really well!

After learning about deforestation, Y4 rehearsed the poem There’s a Rang Tan in my Bedroom. We learned about how forests are being cut down for palm oil production and focused on intonation in performing.
Y4 have been working scientifically and explored how many dunks different types of biscuit could withstand in cold water. We recorded the amount of dunks each biscuit lasted. Some even made it to over 50!

For Refugee Week, we talked about the different communities that we belong to. We also designed welcome baskets for people seeking asylum and refuge. We agreed that working together as a community is a superpower, and spreading kindness makes the world a better place.

To understand how particles move in solids, liquids and gases, Y4 took to the outdoors to explore their movement using the parachute. We kept the particles tight with a little movement in solids, more movement in liquids to fit the space in a level surface and then we allowed the balls to fly everywhere for gases (this was our favourite bit!)
Y4 kicked of their States of Matter topic by observing dancing raisins. We discovered that all states of matter were featured in this observation and refined our explanations to be more scientific!

This year, the theme for Refugee Week is ‘Community as a Superpower’.
We created a backpack full of useful contents.

After discussing what a refugee is and why this might happen to people, we thought about what we could give a refugee to help them survive their journey to safety or what we would take with us if we became refugees. The most important message we need to remember is a refugee is a person just like us and not just a label.

Thank you to everyone wo helped make our family picnic such a success, from the generous items on our community table to the fantastic Henna work in aid of Alder Hey hospital to the very generous sharing of food with staff, the day was fabulous.
In Y4 we investigated one of our original questions ‘Are all liquids the same?’ We decided to have liquid races to explore this question. We raced washing up liquid, golden syrup, juice and cooking oil and discovered some are faster than others. We learned the word viscosity in order to describe this characteristic of liquids. We had so much fun doing so!

Today, we were so happy to be reunited with a couple of our classmates who had been living in another city and were now back in Liverpool. They were welcomed with cheers, hugs and huge smiles by all their friends. Everyone showed kindness. So lovely to see!

Our place value topic has started with practical lessons to recap our understanding of representing and partitioning numbers to 1000. This will help us when we begin to look at numbers to 10,000.

Year 4 had a wonderful day at the Deva Roman Experience in Chester. We collected our shields and weapons before stepping back in time to Roman Britain. We walked the streets of Chester and battled with our ‘enemies’ The children learned a lot of new facts about The Romans, including what they ate and how they went to the toilet. The children loved it!

Year 4 have been loving their P.E. lessons this half term. They have been learning the skills of hockey. We discussed that hockey is an invasion game and the aim is to invade the other teams space to score a goal. To begin, the children have been practising dribbling and controlling the ball to help prevent the opposition from retrieving it.
