Reception had a lovely afternoon visiting Speke Hall! We followed the Giant trail and spotted lots of the giant’s clothes high up in the trees! We tiptoed past the sleeping giant, making sure not to wake him! We then walked around the grounds, looking for signs of Autumn.

Yesterday RLMc had lots of fun visiting Speke Hall. We looked at the changes for Autumn and we even saw a sleeping giant! We visited the giants house, kitchen, music room and even his playground. It was lots of fun!

RLMc had a great trip to Croxteth farm today. We saw lots of animals including goats from the Three Billy Goats story. We loved brushing the horse and holding the rabbit and Guinea pig. We had a great day outdoors.

Year 3 had an amazing trip down at Goodison Park as part of our Everton In The Community project.
We took part in a cooking demonstration and enjoyed the yummy chicken paella we made.

We had lots of fun with our families at Calderstones Park. We played ring games, had a picnic, fed the ducks, rolled down a hill, explored the playground and looked at different plants and flowers in the sensory gardens. Huge thanks to all families for coming along.
What a lovely day some of our Year 6 children had today! A great day playing cricket at Sefton Cricket Club and the sun shone just for us.

Yesterday we had a great time at the International Slavery Museum. We had a workshop in the ‘legacies of the transatlantic slave trade’ and then had time to explore the museum with our task sheets.

Today, we had a special assembly followed by a workshop on renewable energy sources. Year 6 knew lots of information about this as we have covered aspects within our Geography topic.

Last week we had a visit from NRG to tell us all about our use of electricity and what we can do to help. We have signed a pledge to use less electricity and water to help with waste of non-renewable energy.

What a lovely morning with parents we had! We all had a toasted marshmallow, cup of hot chocolate and sang some songs.

For our PSHE lesson we are celebrating differences. In previous weeks we have spoken about racism, bullying and rumours and now we are researching a range of countries and what their culture looks like.
This morning we had a Premier League workshop to tell us all about the different jobs and skills we could get that are part of football. We learnt about football journalists, authors, medics, stewards, mascots, players and coaches. We then acted out being an interviewer, interviewee and clarifier.
In science today we put our ideas to the test. we either chose to either investigate if children with the longest femur could jump the highest or if the tallest children could jump the highest. We completed the post it challenge and made sure our investigation was fair.
We have been studying rocks and today we tested the how hard wearing sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous are, along with their permeability and how they react to acids.

Today in our art lesson we looked at different examples of Arabic calligraphy and have had a go at our own.

Today we tried to recreate the direction and movement of our solar system. We discussed how this is not to scale but wanted to show what we had learnt about ‘Earth and Space’ so far. Please ask us questions about the solar system! 
We all collaborated to create cave art using charcoal. Combining art skills and history knowledge means amazing work!

We had an amazing visit from a local archaeologist, Dr Hill, who brought with him so many artefacts from the Stone Age and Bronze Age. We had time to look at stone axes, arrow heads, tools and weapons made from bone and so much more!

We had a wonderful afternoon showing (and eating) the different phases of the moon. First the children represented this with the ball (moon) and the torch (sun) to find the phases. Then we used biscuits to recreate this. Please ask us about the different phases, can you spot the moon at home?

In Reception we have celebrated International Mother Language Day by counting in other languages and learning the names of our snacks in different languages.
What an amazing start to our art project. The children created their very own paper and then decorated it. Next in our sustainability art project is to up cycle clothing. We can’t wait for the outcomes.

A very important and informative message from Network Rail this morning. We learnt about the dangers on railways and how to stay safe.

For science week, we researched Ruth Wakefield. We learnt all about the temperatures needed and the variables that she changed. We then had a lesson in cookie making with our wonderful cook Monica and decorated the cookies with her face.

Today we watched a live assembly from Network Rail and learnt how to stay switched on and safe around trains and railways.

Yesterday, we had an amazing trip to watch these athletes. The work they put into practising and training really inspired some students. Also, some children met the presenter of Newsround
and even got a picture!
Some children were invited to take part in some maths activities at Goodison Park stadium. They completed challenges and got to see the stadium. What a fun day! 🧮

Today we had a visitor in to teach us about WW2. We trained to become special volunteer police officers and followed commands given in the war. We looked at Erie facts and even had time to role play.

This amazing piece of work was all done at home about WW2! I was so impressed with the amount of knowledge there was about so many different aspects of the war. SUPER WORK!

Year 3 have been exploring artists who use natural materials. Anna Atkins created one of the first books with photographs in it without using a camera! We practised the same technique she did nearly 180 years ago. We used light sensitive paper and natural things we found to create our cyanotype photos.

Our school is now over 150 years old! To celebrate, we are dedicating some work this week to look at our school through time and what events have happened during its time. We started off our week by looking at photos of “Chatsworth Street School” and the area around our school. Everyone was so excited and had lots of questions about our school.

We went to our “Smithdown Archive” today to look at the log books from Chatsworth Street School. Some of the books are nearly as old as our school so we took extra care looking at them.

We have worked super hard to create a scaled timeline of events in Liverpool and our school from 1874 to 2025. We added in things like when our school was created, the blitz in Liverpool, boys and girls merged in school and when our local mosque was built.

Amazing skills practised by Year 3 today! Continuing with our 150 year celebration, we used charcoal to create an image of our school from the 1960s.

We had AS Creative deliver a super session to link with our 150 years celebrations. Year 3 we’re looking at events through our school’s life, so in our session we focused on WWII. We did freeze frames to represent evacuation, rationing and the blitz. It was a great way to think about the children who would have experienced this event in our school in 1939-1945.

Reception had a fantastic day at the museum on Tuesday. We had a wonderful time seeing all of the amazing things – our favourite was the aquarium. The children even spotted Nemo and Dory!

Thank you to everyone wo helped make our family picnic such a success, from the generous items on our community table to the fantastic Henna work in aid of Alder Hey hospital to the very generous sharing of food with staff, the day was fabulous.
We have loved making our trains last week in Year 5. We’ve built our chassis, adding electrics and tested our locomotives. We were even visited by a local engineer from Stadler Rail Company to help us with our electrics and testing.

We looked at why our world has different climates and we also explored digimaps to find different temperatures across earth.

We have had a lovely time in Forest School club with some of our Reception children and parents and families. This morning year 3 have been working hard to collect information for our topic on statistics in maths. We looked out of the windows onto our very busy community to see how many different coloured cars we could see. We then collected the data into a tally chart to turn into pictograms.

Last week we had a performance based on the experiences of refugees. It was brilliant performed and we even had a Q&A session at the end. 
Thank you to all of the families who came out to cheer the children on – they had a blast! 🏆

Today we read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” – the children worked together in pairs to recall what the caterpillar had eaten on each day of the week.
They also used some of the fruits that the very hungry caterpillar had eaten to make their very own fruit salad that they enjoyed during snack time. 🍎🍐🍊🍓🍉🫐
In the creative area the children were making their own very hungry caterpillars using green and red circles. They made these completely independently- how fantastic! 🐛

Thank you to all of the families who attended Receptions Hands assembly this afternoon. The children have been working so hard for the last 10 weeks and they were absolutely fantastic!
We are so proud of all the effort they have been putting into their signing, singing and dancing.

What an absolutely fantastic celebration for our schools 150th birthday celebration! 🎊
The children enjoyed playing on the inflatables with their friends , they had a visit to the ice cream truck for some lovely I whipped ice cream and they also played party games with lots of prizes in their classes!
The children finished off the day with some birthday cake and sang happy birthday to Smithdown Primary School. What a lovely day from start to finish. 🎂

What a super day out! We mummified a body, spoke about what the Ancient Egyptians would have done with dead bodies and went on a scavenger hunt to find information out about the Egyptians.

We loved the open top bus tour of Liverpool today as part of our Geography topic. We recognised lots of local landmarks and loved listening to our amazing tour guide too.

Our first sporting event of the year was Dodgeball. This group of children represented our school like the superstars we knew they were and worked so hard to prefect some new dodgeball skills. We are very proud of you.

We couldn’t be prouder of our Year 2 boys. They played some fantastic football today, winning every match on the way to the play off but unfortunatly losing 2-1 for a place in the city final. One of our superstars was even picked as player of the tournament. What a talented team you are.

Year 4 had a wonderful day at the Deva Roman Experience in Chester. We collected our shields and weapons before stepping back in time to Roman Britain. We walked the streets of Chester and battled with our ‘enemies’ The children learned a lot of new facts about The Romans, including what they ate and how they went to the toilet. The children loved it!

We had a great session with Loti, talking about how we can be different but are still all humans. We spoke about accepting each other and living alongside one another, which can make us stronger.

We have looked at sketching parts of a chosen picture to focus in on different sections. We are getting ready for next week, when we’ll be recreating our chosen picture using the painting with scissors technique.

We all became archaeologists for the afternoon excavating and finding ancient Egyptian artefacts. We spoke about what we learn from the things that can be found, which are thousands of years old.

Yesterday morning, we went for a story, map activity and craft activity at the Palm house. In the afternoon, we followed our map and and completed some fieldwork around Sefton Park. We spotted many human and physical features of the park and added how we felt in each place on our map.
How proud are we of our Year 6 girls, they won 6 out of 7 matches and have secured their place in the City Final! Lionesses in the making!

Great effort on our final piece in art. Painting with scissors has been a great skill Year 3 have gained over the last term. No pencil markings, just free hand cutting. Everyone has become more confident with this technique and we have some amazing collages of some Ancient Egyptian art work.

After receiving coaching from Coach Craig from LSSP, some of our Year 5&6 children have qualified in PALS – Leading physical activities during break times. They really enjoyed the course and can’t wait to get started!

We went on a trip to Speak Hall today and had the best day ever! We went in search of a friendly Giant at the outdoor nature trail. We found lots of giant objects and musical instruments .

Starting our new book, we met a character that loves the sun light stroking her skin as she dances. We used this image to create our own to show how the sun makes the girl feel.

Year 3 have started Remembrance Day by focusing on some art work that uses paint, fabric and stitching. When they are dry we’ll add some stitching on them to add colour and texture.

We have written scripts for two characters in our book. We have used our inference skills to create a conversation that might have happened between them. Then we had some children perform their scripts to the class.
