Remote Education at Smithdown Primary School

Together We Grow

At Smithdown Primary School, Together We Grow — whether learning takes place in the classroom or at home.

Our remote education offer ensures that high-quality teaching and learning continue for all pupils who are unable to attend school in person. We are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive and engaging learning experience that reflects the same ambition and care as our in-school provision.

Our Aims

Our remote education aims to:

  • Ensure that pupils continue to access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum.

  • Provide meaningful learning opportunities that match the knowledge and skills taught in class.

  • Maintain regular communication, feedback and pastoral care for every child.

  • Support families to manage home learning routines and ensure wellbeing.

  • Uphold our school rule: We show kindness and respect — in every interaction, online or offline.

When Remote Education Will Be Provided

Remote learning will be offered when pupils cannot attend school for authorised reasons, including:

  • Illness or medical conditions preventing attendance.

  • Short-term or partial school closures.

  • Exceptional circumstances where home learning is the safest or most appropriate option.

In all cases, our goal is to maintain continuity of education and connection with the school community.

How Remote Learning Works

Depending on the age of the child, we may use Seesaw, Google classroom or recommend a sequence of learning from an online platform such as Oak Acdemy to support your child whilst they are not in school. For families without internet access, printed learning packs and resources are available for collection or delivery.

Support and Expectations

For Pupils

  • Complete activities to the best of your ability.
  • Communicate with your teacher if you need help or support.

For Parents and Carers

  • Encourage your child’s engagement and help them maintain a regular routine.

  • Ensure your child has a suitable space for learning at home.

  • Contact school if you experience difficulties with technology, wellbeing, or workload.

For Teachers and Staff

  • Provide clear, structured lessons and activities.

  • Monitor engagement, progress and wellbeing.

  • Keep in regular contact with families through online messages or phone calls.

Inclusion and Wellbeing

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access learning and feel supported.

  • Tasks are differentiated and adapted for pupils with SEND or additional needs.

  • Our SENCO and pastoral team provide tailored guidance and support for families.

  • Staff carry out regular wellbeing check-ins and signpost children and families to support services when needed.

Remote education also includes activities that promote creativity, physical health and emotional wellbeing, ensuring the whole child continues to grow.

Safeguarding and Online Safety

The same high expectations for behaviour and safety apply during remote learning as in school.
We remind pupils to:

  • Use online platforms responsibly and respectfully.

  • Keep personal information private.

  • Report any concerns immediately to a trusted adult.
