2133KM had an amazing time being reporters today. They asked our ‘witness’ questions about a strange sighting he had. They then worked in groups and took turns asking and answering questions. This will help us when we come to write our own newspaper reports.
3KM have been working scientifically by exploring the question ‘do we need light to see things?’
The children had 5 boxes with a different item in each. They had to peer through the hole in the box and make a predication on what the object could be. When more light was added to the box, some objects could be seen a lot easier than others.

Year 5 had a fantastic time learning about Anglo Saxon and Viking daily life in Martin Mere. We learned how to weave, fight in battle, make a thatched roof and forage for medicine and food in the woods

Year 3 had a great start to their first shared write of the year. We have been learning about imperative verbs, rhetorical questions, adverbs and how instructions are laid out. We put all the new skills we have been learning to the test and used them to create a set of instructions about how to be a mischievous child, based on our reading book ‘Seen and Not Heard’

95Year 3 had a great afternoon applying their painting with scissors skills to some Ancient Egyptian paintings. We discussed the pictures and what we could see, using our art vocabulary. We then had the challenge of focusing on a small part of these images and then had to recreate this.

Today we having been using different oil pastel techniques (sgraffito, dry blending, cross-hatching and tinting) to figure out which ones we want to use for our landscapes.
Year 3 had an amazing day at the Liverpool Museum. We gained so much knowledge about Ancient Egypt which will help as we continue to study this topic in our history lessons. Mohammed, Azad and Banu dressed up as embalmers and they mummified a fake Egyptian body. It was a great opportunity for the children to learn all about this and step back in time.
In English, we are starting a new book. Before the children heard the name or seen the front cover we looked at various clues and made predictions about what it could be about. The children came up with great ideas. Based on the clues, some children thought it was about an explorer who visits different parts of the world. Others thought it was about different habitats. The book will be revealed next lesson!
Year 3 really enjoyed this weeks computing lesson. They all love using scratch to code and create their characters.
102Today we are designing our Diwali lanterns for next week. We have learnt the story of Rama and Sita and thought about why Diwali is celebrated in Hindu religion. We are trying to focus on using Rangoli patterns.
Year 3 had a wonderful day exploring the museum and looking at the different artefacts from ancient Egyptian history. We walked the length of the River Nile and spoke about the process of mummification. We also watched some of our friends become Pharos!
Today, year 3 had a workshop based around Diwali. The children enjoyed learning about this celebration. They learned how it called ‘the festival of lights’ and created their own pieces of art that candle lights are placed in. We got to dress up and took part in a traditional Diwali dance.

Year 4 had “the best day ever” in Chester. We experienced life as a Roman soldier and learnt more about the Roman invasion in Britannia.

Year 3 had a great P.E. lesson outside. We are making the most of the sunshine whilst we have it. The children had to use their speed and agility in todays lesson and work in teams of 4 to collect the most high-fives. We also had a skipping competition to see who was a top skipper in our class.

Huge respect in our class to recognise the soldiers that have fallen in the past. We did a minute silence in the morning and then created amazing poppy art work based on our art topic ‘painting with scissors’ in the afternoon.

This week, year 3 began their gymnastics topic. We discussed different ways to balance using small and big body parts and made these shapes. Overall, a great introduction to gymnastics!
112This week, we worked scientifically by sorting and classifying different types of rocks. We explored the rocks and discussed their characteristics. The children came up with great words such as ‘rough’ ‘bumpy’ ‘smooth’ ‘sharp’
108Today we have loved our class campfire. We enjoyed toasting the marshmallows, creating a s’more and having some hot chocolate. We even had a blast from the past with some children’s songs and rhymes.
Year 3 had a great workshop this afternoon on how to save energy and how to be NRGenius’s. They had to create a powerful image representing why we use fossil fuels. We learnt all about renewable energy and how these are better for our environment. We ended the session by making a pledge to try our best to save energy.
Year 3 had lots of fun learning about and talking through different ways we could save money by saving electricity. We learnt the benefits of turning off things we aren’t using and saving money by doing this. We had to create powerful images to show the importance of fossil fuels and why we need them. We then wrote our own pledge On how we will try to save money, well done Genius’s!!!
Year 4 learnt lots about saving energy and money. A massive thank you to Dr. Watts and Dr. Sparks.
Yesterday we had a great time at the International Slavery Museum. We had a workshop in the ‘legacies of the transatlantic slave trade’ and then had time to explore the museum with our task sheets.
Year 3 had another great gymnastics lesson this week. They made shapes with their bodies using point and patch balances. Some children got very creative with their shapes.
Here are some of the amazing things the year 3 children came up with when we were discussing how we can help people who are being bullied. Some of the answers were incredible. Everyone enjoyed drawing around their hands and colouring their work.
We created moving mechanisms using pivots and levers in our DT lesson with different types of cards, we created holes to bring the mechanism together with a spilt pin and made it move.

Last week we had a visit from NRG to tell us all about our use of electricity and what we can do to help. We have signed a pledge to use less electricity and water to help with waste of non-renewable energy.
Our Year 1 boys did us all so proud today. We finished fifth in the whole city! You are all superstars! Your played so well and your behaviour was exceptional! #teamsmithdown

For our PSHE lesson we are celebrating differences. In previous weeks we have spoken about racism, bullying and rumours and now we are researching a range of countries and what their culture looks like.
This morning we had a Premier League workshop to tell us all about the different jobs and skills we could get that are part of football. We learnt about football journalists, authors, medics, stewards, mascots, players and coaches. We then acted out being an interviewer, interviewee and clarifier.
In science today we put our ideas to the test. we either chose to either investigate if children with the longest femur could jump the highest or if the tallest children could jump the highest. We completed the post it challenge and made sure our investigation was fair.
Today in our art lesson we looked at different examples of Arabic calligraphy and have had a go at our own.
This week, the children have loved writing Christmas Card inserts to their families. They enjoyed practicing their early writing skills using the knowledge they have gained. This afternoon, they are excited to begin designing their cards…I am excited to see their creativity!
We had a lovely morning with our Hands assembly and our DT craft activities. Thank you to all our adults who turned up to support us.

The Reception children of RAG have enjoyed listening to the marvellous Christmas story, ‘The Polar Express’. They even managed to retell the story in sequence, from start to finish, using pictures. Well done!

In DT today we looked at a range of our own toys. We analysed how they moved and started to learn all about wheels and axles.

Year 3 had a practical maths lesson this week which involved them exploring and making 3D shapes. We discussed the properties of each shape and learned some new vocabulary such as, vertices, edges, curved surfaces and flat faces. The children spotted where these 3D shapes can be found in real life. A Pringles tin was a popular cylinder shape in our class
A massive well done to all the children who received a star of the week certificate, a dojo badge or a TTRockstars medal for their efforts this week. What an amazing assembly! It was filled with happiness and rounds of applauses for our friends.

Year 3 discussed their dreams and goals in our PHSE lesson this week. We talked about the importance of recognising the steps that are needed to achieve our goals. We recognised that no matter what dream we have, we need to work hard and overcome any challenge that pops up along the way. We linked our dreams to our school motto ‘together we grow’ and used a flower template to show how our dreams will grow.
We all collaborated to create cave art using charcoal. Combining art skills and history knowledge means amazing work!
72Today, year 3 mixed their history knowledge on the Palaeolithic cave people with their art skills by recreating cave art with charcoal. The children worked like our artist Laura McKendry and completed a group activity on the floor. This allowed them to work on a bigger scale and move around their work.

Year 3 had a lovely day celebrating world book day. We read the story ‘101 Dalmatian’s’ and completed a book review on this. We also created our own dogs out of cups and black circles. In the afternoon, we learnt a new art skill in pointillism to paint our own Dalmatians.
All the costumes were amazing, thank you for yours efforts.
To begin our British Science Week activities, year 3 researched a new scientist. We discovered that Alexander Miles invented automatic elevator door in 1887. We completed a research activity on the IPads and created our own art piece of Alexander using art skills of continuing the picture and shading.
65To celebrate science week, reception read The Gingerbread Man and talked about what might happen if the gingerbread man fell into the water. We decided to see what would happen if we dunked biscuits into milk, oil and water.

This half term we are learning about the Victorians, but we don’t want to forget what we have learnt about our previous topic on the ancient civilisation of Baghdad. So, we played a game called Quiz, Quiz, Trade. This game involves asking questions to see how much we have remembered. We did really well!
57For science week, we researched Ruth Wakefield. We learnt all about the temperatures needed and the variables that she changed. We then had a lesson in cookie making with our wonderful cook Monica and decorated the cookies with her face.
Yesterday, we had an amazing trip to watch these athletes. The work they put into practising and training really inspired some students. Also, some children met the presenter of Newsround
and even got a picture!
Some children were invited to take part in some maths activities at Goodison Park stadium. They completed challenges and got to see the stadium. What a fun day!
We loved exploring our clues and objects that linked to our new English topic. We made great predictions about what the story will be about and shared them with each other.

we helped Ava find out which way she had to migrate, went on a treasure hunt, explored the wetlands and enjoyed the play area too!

Lovely to see all our children dressed up for Eid. Lots of families have been fasting through Ramadan and have had a lovely few days celebrating Eid.

Today we had a visitor in to teach us about WW2. We trained to become special volunteer police officers and followed commands given in the war. We looked at Erie facts and even had time to role play.
This amazing piece of work was all done at home about WW2! I was so impressed with the amount of knowledge there was about so many different aspects of the war. SUPER WORK!
