Yesterday RLMc had lots of fun visiting Speke Hall. We looked at the changes for Autumn and we even saw a sleeping giant! We visited the giants house, kitchen, music room and even his playground. It was lots of fun!

This week we are learning all about chefs. This morning we had a visit from our school chef Miss Monica. We talked about her chefs outfit, the kitchen and menus. We then chose to create our own menus

This week we have been learning about how chefs help us! Our lovely school chef came into class to answer our questions. We learnt about the special clothing chefs have to wear and the different equipment she uses to cook our tasty lunches!

To continue learning about chefs, we’re going to become chefs and make our own soup! To prepare for this, we went to Tesco to buy the ingredients we need.
This week we have been learning all about chefs. We took a trip to Tesco to get ingredients to create vegetable soup.
Last week we made vegetable soup with the items we bought from the shop. We used our cutting skills to chop up the vegetables.
To celebrate the new lunar year, we have been getting crafty in class making representations of dragons using a variety of resources. Look at our fabulous dragons! We also made our own lanterns after learning about the significance of the colour red.

This morning we have had lots of fun playing in our Asda supermarket. We have been writing shopping lists and paying for our food with money.
On Monday we made Evil Pea gloop from our story Supertato. You can make this at home by mixing cornflower, water and green food colouring.

We have been practicing our throwing and catching skills in a group. We worked together to see how quickly we can move the beanbag around the circle.
We have created a pictogram of our favourite character from Supertato. We counted to see how many children liked Evil Pea and how many more liked Supertato.
This afternoon we created Supertato’s house using icing sugar and gingerbread. We mixed the icing sugar and water to use as glue to stick the house together.
We have been having lots of fun outside using the boxes and our imaginations. We have been to the supermarket, space and more!

As part of World Book Day, we shared The Enormous Turnip story in class this week and made our own turnips to take home.

The children independently measured how long the carpet was using our toy vehicles.
In Reception we have enjoyed planting beans as part of our Jack and the Beanstalk/ Jasper’s Beanstalk learning. We talked about how to plant a bean and how to take care of the beans. We have also planted sunflowers and poppies in our mini sensory garden.
We are having a great time playing in our Easter area. We have been creating Easter cards and decorating eggs. We decorated our Easter tree with our favourite Easter eggs.
On Monday Miss McFarlane painted our feet to create carrot footprints.

Today we have made some teddy bear bread using chocolate spread , bananas and raisins.
We had lots of fun with our families at Calderstones Park. We played ring games, had a picnic, fed the ducks, rolled down a hill, explored the playground and looked at different plants and flowers in the sensory gardens. Huge thanks to all families for coming along.

Wow we have had a great time for our Big Teddy Bear Sleepover! First we started with a super singing assembly with Mrs Naylor. It was fun singing and dancing with our teddies. Then we made our teddies a bed to sleep in. We could not believe what they got up too when we went home. This morning we woke our teddies up with a lovely breakfast.
We really enjoyed singing songs and listening to the sounds of the ukulele in music today.

We all had a great time at Speke Hall! We walked around and found a sleeping giant on the Childe of Hale Trail, collected leaves, had a picnic lunch, sang songs and explored the maze and playground.

This morning, Reception have been using their problem skills to firstly estimate which objects will be heavy and which will be light. They had so much fun, pretending to be human scales, and placing objects in their hands, rocking the balance to show heavy and light. To reinforce the learning, the children were introduced to weighing scales, whereby they weighed different everyday items to determine which was heaviest and which was lightest. Some of the children took it a little further, by weighing three objects, then placing them in the order from lightest to heaviest. Good job, 👏
We have been very busy using red paint to make a letterbox. We can’t wait to use it to post our letters.
We made letters today. We used our fine motor skills to cut, fold and stick. We then posted the letters in our new role play post office.

Yesterday we saw some snowy footprints in our classroom. We followed the trail and found our special visitor. We called him Eddie the elf.
This week in Mathematics, the children in class RJP have been focusing on sequencing. We explored the vocabulary, how ‘sequencing’ means to repeat a pattern. The children used paint to create an ‘ABBA’ pattern firstly, following the pattern, ‘red, green, red, green’. We then had lots of fun demonstrating the ‘ababab’ pattern using Christmas pictures, and designing a colourful paper-chain. To extend the learning, we explored different patterns, expanding on the number of picture cards, colours, and using shapes which have been learned previously. This helps the children problem solve sequencing in a fun way.
Why not keep up this learning at home, by asking the children to make repeated patterns using different objects.

Reception and Nursery B have really worked hard to deliver a magnificent performance, full of wonder and magical singing in front of all our wonderful families this week. I would like to thank all of you for your support in taking the time to come and watch the children, as it really makes the difference to your child’s growth, as it builds their confidence. We loved learning all about the twinkly story, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed performing it to you.

This week, the children have loved writing Christmas Card inserts to their families. They enjoyed practicing their early writing skills using the knowledge they have gained. This afternoon, they are excited to begin designing their cards…I am excited to see their creativity!

We have had the best day today…
First, the children were visited by Santa 🎅🏽 who told the class how good they had all been. We were then all treated to the most tasty Christmas dinner. We then went back to class to enjoy yet another favourite treat of ice-cream whilst watching the ‘Beauty and Beast’ panto. What a great 🎉 party day!
The Reception children of RAG have enjoyed listening to the marvellous Christmas story, ‘The Polar Express’. They even managed to retell the story in sequence, from start to finish, using pictures. Well done!
We had a lovely time visiting the local post box to post a letter home. The children worked very hard on writing a wish for a special person/ people in their lives. Our learning had been about how to post a letter home. The children placed their letters into envelopes and put on a stamp. We hope that everybody has received their letters. Many thanks to all parents who joined us for the walk.

Last week we had a great time making pizzas in Reception. We took our pizzas home after rolling out the dough and adding cheese and tomato sauce. Some of us also decorated our pizzas using tomatoes.

We dressed Teddy for the snow. We thought about what kinds of clothes Teddy would need and how he would need to wrap up warm to go outside.
We have been practicing reading words and using our phonic knowledge to match the correct words to the pictures.
This week in maths we are learning all about 3-D shapes. We have been learning some 3-D shape names and trying to find real life 3-D shapes in class and outdoors. We have also been building towers using 3-D shapes and seeing how many shapes we can use to make the tallest tower. We have also been problem solving about which shapes will be the best at the top of the tower!
As part of our winter topic, we are having lots of fun creating our own snowflakes using paint and paper. We have also been practicing our cutting skills in creating our very own snowflakes.
We had so much fun playing in the snow yesterday. We even made a little snowman.
We used ice trays to make 3D ice shapes. We then added them to our winter tuft tray to have some messy fun!
Today we have read the story The Animal Boogie and we have been busy creating enclosures for the jungle animals using the play dough.
This week as part of our ‘People who help us’ topic, we are looking at Doctors and nurses and finding out the things they do to make us better.
Our story this week is Ness the nurse. We have been painting pictures of her.
We ordered numbers 1-10 and found the correct numicon to match.
In PE today we tried different ways of moving around the hall. We practiced being Mr Tall, Miss Small, Mr Rush and Mr Slow.
We have been using mod rock today . We wrapped it around the dolls arms and legs to make plaster casts.
We have used the play dough and wooden sticks to make enclosure’s for the animals from our new story.
We made black currant and strawberry sandwiches this afternoon. Yummy!
We have had lots of fun over the past three weeks exploring the different types of winter weather.
We began our People Who Help Us topic by learning all about the job of doctors and nurses and how they help us. We painted Ness the Nurse after sharing the story in class, created doctor bags, wrote prescriptions and helped Billy Bear to get well soon.
Last week the children had great fun creating their own menus and creating their own sandwiches. We also learnt about the job of a chef and how they help us. We had fun in our supermarket role play area too!
In PE over the last three weeks we have practiced ball skills, developing listening skills through games and developing fine and gross motor skills using hoops and bean bags.

In Reception we have celebrated International Mother Language Day by counting in other languages and learning the names of our snacks in different languages.

This week we are celebrating Science Week at school. Reception are learning about a scientist called Sarah Boone who helped to create the modern day ironing board.
As part of Science Week we did an experiment about which biscuit is the best for dipping! We have used a variety of biscuits to dip into milk, water and oil. We looked to see which liquid was the best to use. Thank you Mrs Kelly for giving us great ideas for a fun afternoon!
This week we have planted sunflower seeds, made scented play dough using lavender, rosemary and mint and planted vegetables, daffodils and herbs. We will be watching the changes to the seeds as they grow. 
To celebrate science week, reception read The Gingerbread Man and talked about what might happen if the gingerbread man fell into the water. We decided to see what would happen if we dunked biscuits into milk, oil and water.

We have had a great time playing the claves in music. We had to keep to a beat and then stop!
This morning we voted as to whether we would climb the beanstalk or not! The children standing said they would climb and the children sitting down said that they would not!

We enjoyed painting sunflowers as we watched our own sunflower seeds begin to grow. We shared a story called Camille and the Sunflowers and looked at a famous sunflower painting by Vincent Van Gogh to help us with our painting.

Today we continued with the Eid celebrations. The children looked amazing in their special Eid clothes and had some fun doing some lovely Eid activities! We finished off the day with a dance party to celebrate Eid 🎉

We have started to learn sign language in Reception. Today we have been learning signs for colours.
Today we celebrated Earth Day in Reception by using sun paper to make natural pictures. We also talked about ways to save and conserve 
energy and used a parachute to use the power of the wind to have lots of fun outdoors.
We had the best day ever visiting Croxteth farm. In the morning we saw lots of farm animals and in the afternoon we had a play in the play area.

We had lots of fun sharing the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We created a bridge, made billy goat collages, practiced our number bonds to 5 using goat counters and made cheese and cress crackers.
This week we are sharing the story of The Three Little Pigs and we have had lots of fun making houses for the pigs using a selection of materials. 
In PE today we looked at using our senses to move around. We used our ears to hear the birds ,our noses to smell the dinner, our eyes to see our friends and feeling mud in our toes

This week in reception the boys and Girls have been very hard at work making a map for Little Red Riding Hood. They made their very own map to help Little Red to stay away from the Big Bad Wolf 🐺 They have made these maps all by themselves… well done boys and girls for working independently!

In Reception the have been working extremely hard every week with a new weekly challenge – which they must complete independently!
The children were given a challenge this week to help out The Jolly-Roger’s family to see what items of treasure would float and which would sink. They experimented with different objects – coins, rocks, kids and rubber bands.
Today the children have enjoyed coming to school in their own clothes to celebrate Eid.

Reception had a fantastic day at the museum on Tuesday. We had a wonderful time seeing all of the amazing things – our favourite was the aquarium. The children even spotted Nemo and Dory!

Reception have been super crafty over the last few weeks reading all about Pirates – they have been making paintings of pirate ships, telescopes, pirate flags and even treasure maps! 🏴☠️
We are practicing songs for our big teddy bear sleepover coming up on Wednesday 9th July at 2.15pm! All parents and families welcome.
On Wednesday 9th July at 2.15pm we are inviting all parents and families to our Big Teddy Sleepover! We invite all of our children to bring in a bear 🐻 and they will make a bed using a selection of boxes and materials. We have had a lovely time in Forest School club with some of our Reception children and parents and families. We have used natural materials to make journey sticks, played listening games and created dens. Tomorrow-Thursday 26th June is our last session where we will be having a campfire. Today we read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” – the children worked together in pairs to recall what the caterpillar had eaten on each day of the week.
They also used some of the fruits that the very hungry caterpillar had eaten to make their very own fruit salad that they enjoyed during snack time. 🍎🍐🍊🍓🍉🫐
In the creative area the children were making their own very hungry caterpillars using green and red circles. They made these completely independently- how fantastic! 🐛
Thank you to all of the families who attended Receptions Hands assembly this afternoon. The children have been working so hard for the last 10 weeks and they were absolutely fantastic!

What an absolutely fantastic celebration for our schools 150th birthday celebration! 🎊
The children enjoyed playing on the inflatables with their friends , they had a visit to the ice cream truck for some lovely I whipped ice cream and they also played party games with lots of prizes in their classes!
The children finished off the day with some birthday cake and sang happy birthday to Smithdown Primary School. What a lovely day from start to finish. 🎂

We listened to the story ‘The tiger who came to tea’ today. Later we painted pictures of the tiger. What a busy Monday we have had!
This week we have learnt two new songs, I’m a little tea pot and tiny Tim. We have had fun exploring with the soap and water. We have also been making cups of tea using the tea bags.

Today in PE we learnt how to get into a space and how to follow instructions. We played the beans game and had to be walking beans, jumping beans and runner beans.
We used magnifying glasses to look at all the different thing that had fallen down off the trees.
Today we have learnt two new songs, Im a little tea pot and Tiny Tim. We have made spotty teapots this morning using the paint sticks and also explored making tea outside. This afternoon we have learnt Tiny Tim and had lots of fun exploring with the soap and flannels.
We have been practicing how to sit in a space and how to follow instructions. We played a game called traffic lights and had lots of fun.
Our book this week was You Choose. The children had lots of fun making different choices. We talked about how we make lots of choices every single day.
They choose what job they would like to have when they are older and we made special crowns to show this. They choose what what type of house they would like to live in and we painted some beautiful pictures for our home area. 🏡
They even got to choose what type of chocolate chips they would have their biscuit 🍪

The children have been reading “Happy Birthday Maisy” this week. We had lots of celebrating this week as it was Lucky Labubu’s birthday as well as Billy Bears, Jesse, Ayah and Elias [RSMc].
We made special decorations, decorated birthday cards and made party hats for the birthday celebration.
This afternoon we played super fun party games and shared some party food together to celebrate – what a wonderful way to end the week!

This weeks story is called Funny bones. We decided to dress our skeleton and sing and dance with her. We talked about different parts of the body and what clothes we wear.
We have been using straws to make skeletons in our playdough area. We used our creative skills to think about where bones need to go.
In reception this week the children have been working out who has “MORE” toys. We shared the toys with Teddy and Jigsaw Jennie, we counted how many each one had and then we worked out who had more and talked about who has less.

We had a great time celebrating Billy Bear and Lucky Labubu’s birthdays! We had a party with delicious party food, played party games and sang happy birthday!
We have been shaking different parts of our bodies fast and slow just like shaking skeletons.

We have had a great time sharing the story of Funnybones this week. We have talked about where our heads, shoulders, knees, toes, hands and legs are and have had fun sharing a skeleton dance. We have also talked about clothing names when dressing a skeleton.
We have been leaning all about the celebration Diwali. We made Diwali lamps out of salt dough and decorated them with bright coloured paint and glitter. Don’t they look amazing!
We had a fantastic time at our campfire. We toasted marshmallows, ate s’mores, sang songs and drank hot chocolate. A big thank you to all the parents and carers for attending.

A great big thank you to everybody that came to our Stay and Play this afternoon. We had so much fun making magic wands, playdough hedgehogs and decorating room on the broom characters.
We went on a trip to Speak Hall today and had the best day ever! We went in search of a friendly Giant at the outdoor nature trail. We found lots of giant objects and musical instruments .
We had a fun time sharing the story of Room on the Broom in class.
We re-enacted the story, ordered broomsticks by length, and created magical spells.
we explored a pumpkin and made magical wands by dipping breadsticks into melted chocolate.

In maths this week we have enjoyed counting up to 5 Gruffalo characters and saying the number names in the correct order.
To end our autumn and Gruffalo learning, we made Gruffalo Crumble in class!
We had a great time making Diwa lamps, making Diwali cards, sharing the story of Rama and Sita, creating Diwali celebration food, tasting some of the foods that may be eaten during Diwali and watching the lighting of the Diwa lamps.
In Reception we remembered the events of the past by making poppies and watching a rabbit animation.
This week we have been looking at parts that make a whole in maths. We have completed sets of jigsaws by using the parts to make a whole.

On Tuesday we visited Central Library in our city centre with some of our families and we had a great time sharing books, having a look around the children section of the library and even going onto the roof to see the skyline of Liverpool.
This week we have had lots of fun using timers to freeze, see how many jumps, claps and hops we can do before the time ran out!
We had a great time learning a new song about a teddy today.
