About Us
Smithdown Primary is a thriving, oversubscribed two-form entry community school at the heart of Liverpool. We are proud to serve a diverse, vibrant and multicultural community that reflects the rich social and cultural heritage of our city. Our pupils represent a wide range of cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds, bringing with them the values, experiences and traditions that make our school a truly inclusive and inspiring place to learn.
At Smithdown, we are ambitious for every child. We have the highest expectations of all learners and provide a broad, balanced and knowledge-rich curriculum designed to ensure that every pupil achieves well and develops a lifelong love of learning. Reading sits at the heart of our curriculum, and we are committed to enabling every child to become a confident, fluent reader who can access the full curriculum and the wider world.
Our ethos is built on kindness, respect and aspiration. We nurture the whole child—academically, socially and emotionally—so that they grow in confidence and character. Personal development is central to our work; pupils learn to take pride in themselves, their community and their achievements, developing the skills and attitudes they need to contribute positively to modern Britain.
As an inclusive school, we work closely with families, local organisations and support services to remove barriers to learning and to ensure that all pupils, including those with SEND and those who speak English as an additional language, flourish and succeed. Our dedicated staff team is committed to safeguarding, equality and opportunity for all.
The rich diversity of our pupils and our inner-city setting are a constant source of inspiration for teaching and learning. Creativity, cultural celebration and community cohesion are woven throughout school life, helping our pupils to understand and value the world around them. At Smithdown Primary, every child is known, valued and empowered to achieve their very best.
